Project Management Network: Assessment of Environmental, Economic and Social Impacts of Beef Production in the Cerrado, Amazon and Pantanal

Enter multiple e-mails separated by comma.

This proposal seeks to facilitate technological solutions for competitive cattle farming, making rational use of the environment and regional resources while preserving the flora and fauna of the Cerrado, the Amazon and the Pantanal. The cattle industry plays a significant social and economic role, generating over 6 million jobs and contributing over $ 3 billion to the country's exports. The Cerrado is currently the leading region for livestock and at this moment there is an opportunity to establish strategies at the national level aimed at increasing the competitiveness of cattle due to the great flexibility of this activity. Currently, alongside the traditional production system on large pastures several alternatives have come to the forefront: crop-livestock integration, confinement, semi-confinement, intensified pastures and silvopastoral systems. The advantages of each system manifest themselves depending on the local condition of resources and market prices. The focus of this proposal in this context is to compare the environmental, social and economic impacts of different systems in order to identify those most suitable for specific scenarios in order to assist in the formulation of public policies and programs for this sector and its main beneficiaries: decision makers at national and regional levels and, indirectly, farmers and society in general.
