Context
The demand for biofortified/nutraceutical products, which naturally offer higher levels of vitamins and substances that are good for human health, has increased in recent times.
About the asset
Cultivar of high yield potential, precocity, pink-colored root pulp, reduced cooking time, good culinary qualities, plant architecture that favors crop treatments, easy harvest, and moderate resistance to bacteriosis. The pink color of the root pulp is related to the presence of a higher amount of carotenoids such as lycopene, which has important antioxidant properties. Thus, pink pulp cultivars such as BRS 401 are consequently more nutritious than white and cream-colored pulp cultivars, and represent a new option for the table cassava market in Distrito Federal and outskirts, region for which they are recommended. Its main use is as human food, in a variety of presentations and uses.

Characteristics in comparison with competitors available in the market
It solves the problem of the inexistence of cassava cultivars with pink-colored root pulps, with good root productivity, good culinary qualities, high lycopene content and moderate resistance to bacteriosis.
Impacts for the production sector and for society
High concentration of the carotenoid lycopene, an antioxidant substance that fights premature aging and helps preventing prostate cancer, and that gives the product a pinkish color, is a strong attraction for the consumption and promotional use of this cultivar.
