Context
The supply of peanut cultivars for large-scale cultivation in narrow-row systems with high mechanization and high yield is still a bottleneck for the expansion of the crop in Brazil. BRS 425 OL not only meets this demand, but is also grown earlier than the similar ones available in the market, enabling an earlier harvest and rotation with other crops, and suitable for table consumption and for the food industry.
About the asset
Peanut cultivar with high oleic acid content for human consumption. It has a 135-day cycle and an average yield of 5,100 kg/ha, with suitable management. BRS 425 OL also performs well when it is sown late or when phytosanitary management is deficient. The cultivar features high hardiness, partial resistance to Cercospora leaf spot, and tolerance to ringspot. The grains are medium-sized and round, which is ideal for the markets for dragées (coated products), peanut butter, paçoca (peanut fudge), and vegetable oil. It is recommended for cultivation in São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Tocantins, Bahia, Ceará, and Pernambuco.

Characteristics in comparison with competitors available in the market
High hardiness; 135-day cycle; high oleic acid content; high yield potential; meeting the domestic and foreign market demands for quality peanuts for the food industry; end of crop season; partial resistance to Cercospora leaf spot.
Impacts for the production sector and for society
High agronomic performance; Possibility of rotation with other crops; Partial resistance to Cercospora leaf spot and tolerance to ring spot; High nutritional value for the food sector; High oleic acid content, which increases the shelf life of the product; Peanuts can be used fresh with or without skins (blanched peanuts), as snacks (roasted peanuts) or as industrialized foods (sweets, confectionery, others).
Partnership goals
