Winfried Blum, uma das maiores autoridades mundiais da Ciência do Solo, e Roger Swifit, professor emérito na Universidade de Queensland, Austrália, estarão na Embrapa Solos (RJ) no seminário "Solos em Debate" , evento comemorativo do Dia Mundial do Solo (05/12). Entre os temas abordados estão: desenvolvimento mundial das pesquisas sobre solos, sequestro de carbono, aquecimento global, entre outros. Na ocasião também participará o presidente do International Union Soil Science (IUSS), Rainer Horn. O seminário acontecerá amanhã (25), das 10h às 13h, no auditório da Embrapa Solos. Blum Professor emeritus of soil science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences ( BOKU )/ Vienna/Austria since 2009. Former Professor at the University of Freiburg/Germany (1972-75), at the State University of Paranà in Curitiba/Brazil.(1975-79), and Director of the Institute for Soil Research at the BOKU University/Vienna (1979-2009) - Research and teaching activities in Europe, Africa, North-and South-America, Asia and Australasia. Former Member of the Executive Board of the International Council for Science (ICSU), Paris/France; Secretary-General of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), Founding President of the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies (ECSSS), Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Environment Agency (EEA) amongst many other duties. Member of editorial boards of 27 scientific journals, with more than 750 publications in 15 languages in the fields of soil science, agricultural and forest land use and environmental protection. Member and honorary member of numerous Academies, national and international learned societies ,with numerous distinctions and awards. Roger Swift Roger Swift is Emeritus Professor at the University of Queensland, Australia where he was formerly an Executive Dean for 10 years. Previously he has held the positions of: Chief of the Division of Soils at CSIRO, Australia; Dean of Agriculture and Food and Professor of Soil Science at Reading University, UK and Vice-Principle and Professor of Soil Science at Lincoln University in New Zealand.
