General head and researchers of the Embrapa unit meet with representatives of India
Last week, Embrapa dairy Cattle received the visit of two representatives of India's National Dairy Development Board. The body is an institution of national importance, created by law by the Indian Parliament.
Two years ago, the Ministry of the Agriculture of India and Embrapa elaborated an agreement for the exchange of experiences in the area of animal reproduction. India has the largest bovine herd of the world and is also the world's top milk producer. However, for cultural reasons, the evolution of the dairy herd in that country did not take place in a commercial way.
India is interested in expanding their milk production by improving animal genetics. For that purpose, Brazil, which has promoted a major genetic evolution in bovine breeds of Indian origin, is a point of interest for that country.
The technical cooperation between Brazil and India, via Embrapa and NDDB, stipulates the development of joint work in the area of breeding and genetic improvement, reproduction biotechnology, and capacity-building in genomics. In the upcoming weeks, the Unit will welcome two technicians from the agency for a course on in vitro embryo production.
During last week's visit, in addition to calling on the Unit's laboratories, the NDDB representatives visited farms in the region. The Indians have a keen interest in the Dairy Gyr produced in Brazil. They were impressed with the conditions in which the national cattle is raised.
