African delegation visits Embrapa center in Bahia
On April 11-12, Embrapa Cassava and Fruits (Cruz das Almas, BA), a Unit of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa, welcomes a delegation of government and agribusiness representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with an interest in cassava crops.
Organized by Embrapa's Institutional Relations and Technology Transfer Management Sectors, on Thursday the visit includes presentations by the Congolese and Embrapa's team on the cassava research program and on the corporation's international cooperation with Africa (researcher Alfredo Alves), and on cassava uses (researcher Joselito Motta) and processing (researcher Luciana Oliveira).
Friday morning will be dedicated to technical field visits. The group will see Cruz das Almas city market, especially the stand where cassava flour and by-products are sold, and a processing unit located in the Cadete rural zone. In Marogogipe, also in Bahia, the destination is the table cassava processing unit at the Brinco community, which vacuum seals and trades the product in supermarkets in Cruz das Almas and in Salvador, the state capital.

UNIDO is an UN specialized agency that in recent years has taken up a leading role in the global development agenda by focusing their activities on the fight against poverty, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability..
According to Eleonora Amaral, responsible for organizing the mission that also includes São Paulo, Brasília, Mato Grosso and Pará, the project aims to “help the training of the newly conflict-free rural population”. The delegation is formed by the provincial Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock, Rural Development, Environment and Nature Conservation of Congo, Denis Nsitu Mambuku, advisors, a chargé d'affairs, farmers, researchers, a congressman, a lawyer, a market specialist and a project coordinator, among others positions.
