Brazil-Canada workshop discusses bioeconomy in planted forests

From December 01 to 03, 2020, Embrapa Forestry will participate in the online event “Bioeconomy on the Planted Forest”, held by the General Consulate of Canada and Canada Trade Office in Porto Alegre, RS, with the support of Export Development Canada (EDC) and the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commercer. The event will feature the participation of Jennifer May, Ambassador of Canada in Brazil, and Pedro Henrique Lopes Borio, Ambassador of Brazil in Canada. The workshop is on-line and free, with two days of case studies presented by companies and research institutions in Brazil and Canada, and a day for a business round.

Erich Schaitza, researcher and general head of Embrapa Forestry, will be a lecturer and moderator for the panel "Cases by Brazilian companies and research institutions", which will take place on December 01, from 14h to 16h. In his lecture, he will discuss the development of new products and the need to establish new value chains. The panel includes representatives of Klabin, Ibá, CMPC and Suzano.

On the following day, also from 14h to 16h, the researcher Washington Magalhães, from Embrapa Forestry, will chair the panel "New forest products and paper and cellulose processes", which will also feature presentations by eight companies and four Canadian research institutions. The third day is reserved for business rounds and talks to be scheduled according to availability and interest.

The event is organized by Malinovski and is supported by Ibá, Embrapa Forests, ABAF, ABBI, ACR, Ageflor, AMIF, APRE, Arefloresta, Cedagro, Florestar and Reflore MS.
