The minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fishery of Ecuador, Javier Ponce Cevallos, visited Embrapa Satellite Monitoring, in Campinas, SP, on November 16. The dignitary has been to Brazil to learn more about technologies in different areas and discuss possible partnerships of interest to agriculture. Cevallos was accompanied by his advisor, Mariuxi Lorena Gomez Torres, and was welcomed by the head of the unit, Evaristo de Miranda, by the deputy head of Technology Transfer, José Gilberto Jardine, and by the researcher from Embrapa Instrumentation, Sílvio Crestana.
The minister was given an overview of the research center's work in Brazilian agriculture, with emphasis on territorial intelligence. He was introduced to two applications of the concept developed by Strategic Territorial Intelligence Group (Grupo de Inteligência Territorial Estratégica - Gite): the macrologistics of agriculture – a system that aims to monitor the storage and flow of goods from their harvest to ports – and the study for the Federation of Industries of São Paulo State, which will support the project on the impact of mechanization of the sugarcane harvest in slope areas in the state of São Paulo. Cevallos showed interest in holding an event in Ecuador to disseminate the concept of a territorial approach to agriculture.
After the visit, the minister went to São Carlos, SP, where he learned about the projects and technologies produced by Embrapa Instrumentation on November 17, and then visited Embrapa Southeast Livestock.
