Integration of Agriculture, Cattle Raising and Silviculture: Alternative of Sustainable Development in Altered Areas in the Brazilian Amazon
Integration of Agriculture, Cattle Raising and Silviculture: Alternative of Sustainable Development in Altered Areas in the Brazilian Amazon
The cattle raising activity in the Amazon has generated degradation of millions of hectares of grasslands, associated to economical decadence due to the low productivity and a series of global factors, requiring thus alternatives capable of overcoming these limitations, in addition to the ability to re-incorporate this great land extension to the productive process. In this sense, this project aims to evaluate, adapt and develop innovating systems of integration agriculture-cattle farming (LP), cattle farming- silviculture (PS) and agriculture - cattle raising - silviculture (LPS) in order to increase the competitiveness of the sector in the Amazon, while keeping environmental impact to a minimum. The proposal contemplates four action plans. This project also aims to monitor experimental parcels of long duration, and at the end of a three-year period, Embrapa will have structured a network of scientific development and technological diffusion with synergic actions and validated database, unified and with usage and security rules regarding information. The actions and strategies of communication and technology transfer are based in the knowledge generated and in socio-economic, ecologic and regional particularities.
