Summary: O matrinxã é uma espécie de importância para a piscicultura na Amazônia, já que exibe crescimento e conversão alimentar desejáveis em cultivos comerciais. Entretanto, é um peixe bastante ativo e deve ser anestesiado na execução de práticas de manejo. O presente estudo avaliou as propriedades do óleo essencial de Ocimum gratissimum como anestésico para juvenis de matrinxã.
