Summary: Abstract: The constant study of the morphophysiological characteristics becomes fundamental so that one can promote the improvement of how one occurs to the dynamics of forage production. The objective of this study was to evaluate the structural characteristics and biomass production of the tamani-grass submitted to nitrogen fertilization. A randomized complete block design was used, with three replications. The treatments consisted of nitrogen doses equivalent to 0, 100, 300, 600 and 1,200 kg ha-1 year-1. The analyzed variables were: accumulation rate of total harvestable forage, rate of accumulation of harvestable green forage and live material and dead material. The rates of total collapsible forage (RTCF) and harvestable green forage (RHGF) increased linearly with increasing nitrogen rates. The dose of 1200 kg ha-1 year-1 of N provided increases of 180% for RTCF and 175% for RHGF. The MV / MM ratio presented quadratic response, maximizing in the equivalent dose of 597.05 kg ha-1 year-1 of nitrogen, with an estimated value of 99.98. The structural characteristics and biomass production of tamani-grass were increased by the nitrogen up to the equivalent dose 1200 kg ha-1 year-1.
