Summary: Abstract: This work aims to analyze the reduction of water bodies number by the expansion of sugarcane crop advancement in Álvares Florence - SP between 2006 and 2017. The land use and land cover information were obtained from MapBiomas, allowing the comprehension of the changes that occurred in landscape. The identification of water bodies happened through the application of modified AWEInsh in Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-8 OLI images of 2006, 2010, 2015 and 2017. As results, it was observed the sugarcane expansion of 10,000 ha. It was also noted that there is an association between sugarcane activity and the reduction of number of water bodies in landscape, that may cause the habitat loss for various species.
