Summary: Este artigo objetiva analisar o histórico recente de ocupação e expansão agropecuária nesse bioma, apresentando novos modelos para intensificação e diversificação agrícola, evidenciando o papel dos produtores rurais, do mercado consumidor e, principalmente, da pesquisa e das políticas públicas para combate às mudanças climáticas e promoção de uma agricultura ambientalmente mais responsável e sustentável.
