Summary: In this work we report for the first time in Brazil the occurrence of carambola fruit fly Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock, 1994 (Diptera: Tephritidae) in fruits of Carica papaya L., from samples collected in the municipalities of Almeirim, state of Pará, and Mazagão, state of Amapá. These findings are discussed in the context of Brazilian fruit growing
