Resumo: On this CD we are pleased to present material presented at the 2nd Global Workshop on Digital Soil Mapping, including the overall program and general information on the Workshop themes, Committees, Host Societies and Sponsors, full papers in pdf files, seven keynote speeches, field tour information, participants information, a mini CV of Keynotes, Discussants and Rapporteurs, as well as the copyright and how to do the Cd-rom citation. Digital Soil Mapping is currently an important issue in all countries, with positive impacts on soil surveys, through improved soil property and class spatial prediction and mapping, to support land-use planning, conservation and management of soils, water and forests, for agricultural and non-agricultural purposes. The 2nd Global Workshop on Digital Soil Mapping registered delegates from 14 countries, with 70 participants that have travelled from near and far. This meeting follows the very successful inaugural workshop, organised by Philippe Lagacherie and Marc Voltz, two years ago in Montpellier, France. This meeting has an exciting and challenging focus. We all realize that many parts of the world have very limited soil data, which we technically call sparse soil spatial data infrastructure. To some extent this applies to both (economically) developed and developing nations. In these times of serious concerns about climatic, food, water and energy security and environmental sustainability the need for such data for successful strategic decision and policymaking is paramount. Here we will discuss the possibilities of integrating new hardware and software tools, new techniques as well as exchange knowledge on how soil science community could respond expeditiously to this unprecedented demand for soil information. The Workshop aims to review and discuss the state-of-the-art in spatial data infrastructures as well as the use and availability of soil data for digital soil mapping, to promote open discussions about methods, experience and applications of new technologies to soil mapping. Unlike many conferences where presentations dominate, this is very much a workshop with a balance between presentations and discussions. For those reading this who were not able to attend the Workshop we trust the information contained herein is useful.
