Summary: ABSTRACT: Stylosanthes guianesis, a Cerrado native species, shows excellent adaptation to this Region, is drought resistance and a ecotype, release as cv. Mineirão, is indicated as protein bank. The Mineirão protein bank has been successfully adopted by farmers to complement cattle diet in cultivated grass pastures during the dry season. This is specially true for Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu, the most widespread grass in the Region and which is not suitable for mixing with tropical pasture legumes. Mineirão protein banks can also be an efficient complement for native pastures. Research data and farmer's experiences all over the region supports the use of Mineirão protein bank as an alternative to reduce production costs and increase milk and beef productivity.
