Summary: In a Yellow Latosol (pH = 4.8, Ca + Mg = 1.4 cmo1/dm3, P = 2 cmo1/dm3, and K = 71 mg/kg) in the experimental station of Embrapa-Rondonia, Porto Velho, Brazil, the effect of the shade of rubber plants established at 3 x 7 m, in the production of DM and the quality of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandú, in. a design of blocks at random with three repetitions, was evaluated. Cuttings were made every 14 days between 28 and 84 days of age. Increasing the cuttings intervals produced better DM yields and, inversely, less content of N, P, K, Mg, regardless of the shade. The better intervals were between 56 and 85 days in the grass under shade, and between 42 and 70 without shade.
