Summary: The Amazonian floodplains present high natural fertility and can be an alternative to sustainable production of grains by the local populations of Amazonas. With the objective to evaluate the potential productivity of the floodplain ecosystem, two experiments with maize and cowpea were carried out at the district of Iranduba - AM, Brazil, in soil classified as Gley Humic.
