In Pantanal, the dynamics of many species follows the pulse of floods, which can promote pasture clearing or, on a few occasions, allow for a higher or lower level of field infestation. This pasture management practice helps Pantanal farmers tackle one of the main problems they face: a decrease in carrying capacity of native and exotic pastures due to the invasion of shrub species. The removal of opportunistic and/or invading plants in native pasture areas, as well as of regenerating plants in ill-planned visibly-degraded cultivated pastures, should be systematically performed to allow the full restablishment of forage plants and ensure animals with higher pasture supply.
