The aquaPLUS® Platform comprises a set of assets related to the genetic analyses of aquacultural broodstock. The focus of the Platform is to provide simple, practical and innovative solutions to characterize, manage and breed aquacultural species. Through the services made available in the Platform, it is possible to learn whether the females of aquacultural species have any degree of kinship between them and whether they are purebred or hybrid (result of crossing with other species), which will thus allow the directed crossbreeding of such females to produce fry both for fattening and for the replacement, exchange and trade of female germplasm, and consequently reduce productivity losses. Inbreeding generates production losses both in the fingerling and in the fattening stages. The following services are available in the platform: - TambaPLUS: genomic tools for the analysis, characterization, certification, management, breeding and genetic improvement of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum); - VannaPLUS: genomic tools for the analysis, characterization, certification, management, breeding and genetic improvement of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei); - TilaPLUS: genomic tools for the analysis, characterization, certification, management, breeding and genetic improvement of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus); Embrapa is developing genomic tools for other aquacultural species as well.
