Use of agricultural gypsum in Cerrado pastures

Enter multiple e-mails separated by comma.

It consists of applying gypsum, which is a by-product of the fabrication of phosphoric acid, to the soil. With the use of gypsum, pastures become more tolerant to dry spells, which are common in the Cerrado region, since they absorb more water and nutrients from the soil in view of the deeper root system. Besides field experimentation, the project held biological tests to identify aluminum toxicity and calcium deficiency as factors limiting root growth in subsurface layers, and studies on sulphate adsorption in latosol profiles in the region, in order to establish criteria to diagnose the need to apply gypsum and respective dosage based on soil texture and depth.
