The Basic Sanitation System for Rural Areas was initially composed of two technologies, the "Biodigester Septic Tank" and the "Embrapa Chlorinator", developed by the researcher Antônio Pereira de Novaes (deceased). Such technologies, due to their social and national reach, have provided great returns to Brazilian society. Embrapa Instrumentation has made efforts to disseminate the system in the entire domestic territory through public and private partnerships, however, it has observed the need to train partners inside the institution itself, in different regions of the country, so that the work of technology dissemination in the Brazilian territory is optimized in terms of costs and time. The project aimed at training Embrapa collaborators through in-house courses, and training multipliers in events held in different Embrapa units spread throughout the national territory. Moreover, it could bridge a gap in Basic Rural Sanitation, the treatment of "graywater", composed of sewage that has variable amounts of soaps and detergents (from sinks, showers, tanks, etc.) with the use of the "Filter Garden", in which macrophytic aquatic plants - in a box with gravel and sand - are used to purify the sewage.
