AndroLógico - Application for andrological examination of cattle
Context
To replace 20% per year, Brazilian livestock farming needs 600,000 new bulls every year. However, breeding programs only offer 60,000. This means that we need an additional 540,000 breeding animals per harvest. In the absence of these, breeders – especially the smaller ones – use males without evaluation”. The information is from Dr. Pietro Baruselli, Full Professor of the Department of Animal Reproduction at FMVZ/USP and researcher at CNPq, in an interview for the ASBIA Yearbook of Bovine Genetics 2023. Therefore, considering that we have a universe of 540 thousand bulls, we should have the evaluation of these animals that are in natural mating and that are not sold at auction. It is worth mentioning here that the animals sold must have the andrological examination at the time of sale. We therefore consider that the market for the andrological examination using the application is for those who already perform it (60 thousand bulls) and that there is an opportunity for broad growth for the entire market of bulls that are in natural mating - in the long term -, 600 thousand bulls.
About the asset
This is a software program for performing andrological examinations, with standardization. Often, in field practice, veterinarians may have difficulties or may not know all the information necessary for a correct andrological examination. The software requires that all information be filled out before issuing the andrological report. Additionally, it is expected to collect andrological databases from various regions of the country, so that we can evaluate breed, age, seminal pattern, number of animals evaluated per region, among others. By identifying the most common sperm pathologies per region and understanding this distribution, we may have demands for future research, both of a genomic and environmental nature (for example, heat stress, which is very common in causing testicular degeneration, with consequent loss of the sire and losses to the producer). This is the first application for performing and standardizing andrological examinations, facilitating the preparation of reports that will be delivered to the producer, saving time for the field professional. Furthermore, the application requires the report to be issued on the completion of good andrological practices, with the completion of anamnesis and physical and morphological examinations. This is a responsive web application for browsers and mobile devices of any type (Android, iOS, etc.). The application does not require a constant internet connection, as it synchronizes data offline.

Impacts for the production sector and for society
The software offers value to the user, as it provides guidance on the correct andrological examination protocol, records information online and issues a report automatically. These features meet the needs of many veterinarians who work in the field, where practicality and effectiveness mean important differentiators.
Consultations were conducted with professionals who work in the field during the software design and validation stages. This methodology favored semi-structured interviews and sought to systematize and operationalize the real difficulties encountered during the routine andrological examination.
