Magda Lima, a researcher from Embrapa Environment (Jaguariúna, SP), will be in Bilbao, Spain from June 7 to June 9, 2017, upon the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s invitation to participate in the elaboration of the methodology report “2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories”.

The researcher will be the lead author of Chapter 10 of Volume 41, which addresses livestock and animal waste management. The work to be started in Bilbao is due to end in 2019.

The work plan and the draft 2019 Refinement was discussed by the IPCC at its 44th Session in Bangkok, Thailand, in October 2016. Based on that, the IPCC invited coordinating lead authors (CLA), lead authors (LA) and review editors (RE). The meeting in Bilbao will consist of three parts: an author meeting for Volume 1 - general guidance and reports; an author meeting for Volume 4, which includes activities related to agriculture, forests and other land uses; and an author meeting for Volumes 2, 3 and 5 - energy, industrial processes, use of products and waste.

According to the researcher, lead authors will be base themselves on contributions, available literature, and manuscripts that can be submitted for IPCC's analysis and review. In addition, unpublished material that is available for experts and reviewers may be included with due justification.

Magda calls on Brazilian professionals who work to improve greenhouse gas emission factors to publish and communicate their results so that they can be used as references in the databases IPCC uses.
