Turtle farming of yellow-spotted river turtle (Podocnemis unifilis): an ecological and social alternative for sustainable rural development in Amapá

The project aims to promote and develop of turtle farming in the municipality of Pracuúba, state of Amapá, combining bioecological aspects to support the management of . The project will be developed in a natural environment and in captivity to generate technologies, aiming at improving the species' cultivation systems and supplementing community's income. The promotion of aquaculture development in the state meets not only an environmental demand, but also an economic and social one. With this concern, this project presents a new proposal in aquaculture, focused on family turtle farming, in partnerships with the community of the lakes region of the municipality of Pracuúba, as well as raising the awareness of children, young people and adults in this municipality regarding the sustainable use of resources trade and use of products generated from turtle farming.
