Agriculture is one of the economic sectors that are most heavily influenced by the climate and meteorological conditions: from sowing to harvest, various agricultural activities are promoted depending on the weather. Thus previous knowledge of such conditions through the daily monitoring and use of weather forecast information is an essential tool for agriculture. One of the ways to get weather information to support the timely decision-making of farmers is through agrometeorological monitoring systems, such as the Agritempo. Such system provides free online access to agrometeorological and agro-climate information from Brazilian cities and states. The Agritempo was developed through a partnership between Embrapa Agriculture Informatics and the Center for Meteorological and Climate Research Applied to Agriculture of the State University of Campinas (Cepagri/Unicamp). To help in the creation of Agritempo’s database, a network comprising approximately 40 different public and private organizations involved in the research and development of meteorology and agriculture was built. The main objective of this project is to update the computational platform currently used and Agritempo’s interface to the concept of web 2.0, making it more interactive and also including new features to better meet Embrapa's target audience’s needs. Thus, this project aims to redesign Agritempo’s system and incorporate new visualization features, WebGIS, mobile computing, and give users more flexibility in the use of computational resources.
