Maps, zoning and monitoring resources are examples of geospatial information which are daily used for planning, managing resources, decision making, and for public policies. Geoinformation are of strategic importance for several sectors, including for strengthening Brazilian agriculture and for transferring the knowledge produced by Embrapa to society. To quickly produce, organize and make geospatial services and data available, Embrapa needed an up-to-date, modern data infrastructure, to enable the use and development of innovative analysis methods, and the disclosure of the data produced. Aware of the importance of such a resource, Embrapa initiated its process of adhering to the Brazilian National Spatial Data Infrastructure (Inde). Established by the Brazilian government by means of the Federal Decree no. 6.666, of November 27, 2008, Inde has the objective of integrating, bringing into compliance and disclosing geoinformation throughout federal, state, and municipal institutions. As part of Inde, Embrapa now has a spatial data infrastructure that enables the company to store, organize, curate and disclose its data, and thus increase its research, development and innovation capacity, as well as to share its data collection with other governmental agencies and institutions and with society in general. The main expected results are the definition of a management process for the life cycle of the spatial data produced by the company, in order to increase the potential of using these information, and the disclosure of the knowledge and innovation produced by Embrapa to society, by training geospatial data producers and users, and by internalizing practices and standards.
