Embrapa and Campinas’ City Hall (Prefeitura Municipal de Campinas) produced the School Atlas for the Metropolitan Region of Campinas using data and information on agricultural activities and their importance for the transformation of the region’s landscape. After the Atlas was published, the partnership continued in a new project with the aim of encouraging its use by teachers and students within the Campinas’ public school network. Prefeitura Municipal de Campinas created Programa Pesquisa e Conhecimento na Escola (Pesco), a program to foster research and knowledge production in the school environment), and within which schools are encouraged to produce research projects on themes and subjects featured in the Atlas. At the end of the course (offered yearly), teachers and their students showcase their results in Fórum Estudantil de Pesquisa, a forum for disclosing their school research. Urban vegetable gardens and healthy food are among the themes researched by the students, as well as mapping several indicators on the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC).
