Clonal forestry, nutrition, and quality in yerba mate

This project involves activities and research related to clonal forestry, nutrition, and health foryerba mate involving pest and disease monitoring. These activities involve partnerships withthe Brazilian Yerba Mate Institute (IBRAMATE) and Ervateira Baldo S.A., which provide financialresources, space, labor, and raw materials. Research will be conducted to improve the yerbamate production system in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná. The objectives are toassess progeny tests and clones established in 2016, implement and evaluate tests for clonalnutrition and forestry studies, establish an area to demonstrate morphotypes, and monitorpests and diseases affecting yerba mate. The studies and research areas focus on futuredevelopment of improved genetic materials, creating technical and scientific foundations fortechnology transfer events and public visitation as well as recommendations for fertilizingyerba mate during planting, and surveying the state of the art on pests and diseases that affectthis crop.
