Summary: ABSTRACT - The present paper aims to evaluate the advantages of the ASTER sensor to detect landscape pattern of the palm tree (babaçu) from spectral analysis. The study area is located in the Cocal river basin, Natividade - TO. The methodology can be divided in three stages: (a) pre-processing, (b) detection of the endmembers and (c) spectral classification. The images were acquired with atmosphere correction from AST07 product. The Level 2 surface reflectance data set (AST07) contains surface reflectance for all of the nine VNIR and SWIR bands at 15-m and 30-m resolutions, respectively. Endmembers were detected from three steps: (a) spectral reduction by the Minimum Noise Fraction (MNF) transformation, (b) spatial reduction by the Pixel Purity Index (PPI) and (c) manual identification of the endmembers using the N-dimensional visualizer. The methodology allowed to separate the main types of physiognomy in the study area and determinated the landscape pattern occurrences of the palm tree (babaçu) .
