[Soro-epidemiological studies of Maedi-Visna in sheep at North region of Ceara State]. Abstract - The Maedi-Visna constitutes a complex gradual slow infection of sheep caused by a non-oncogÍnic retrovirus. The main economic impacts are reproductive fails, reduction in milk yielding and weight losses. The objective of this work is to know the prevalence of Maedi-Visna Virus in sheep flocks at the Ceara state. A four-hundred and fifteen samples were taken to sero-diagnose the Maedi-Visna Immunodiffusion in gel agarose using a experimental antigen from Maedi-Visna Virus strain K1514 produced at Goat Center, Embrapa. Two animals (0.5%-2/415) presented antibodies against antigen the virus of Maedi-Visna being one animal pure breed Dorper and another one a cross-breed . This results confirms the presence of positive Maedi-Visna Virus in sheep at the Cear· state. The control measures should be implemented in order to reduce the risk of virus Maedi-Visna dissemination.
