Summary: ABSTRACT: The Cerrdao soils show deficience of calcium and toxicity of aluminum inthe subsurface, what impedes the growth of the roots under the the rapidleaching of calcium and sulface into the subsurface results in the decrease of these problems and therefore increases the growth of the roots. results from field experiments with annual and perennial crops have shown increases in the productivity in response to its use, thanks to the largest utilization of nutrients and water from subsoil, what is important during the dry spells. The diagnosis of the necessity of gypsum use is done througt the soil chemical analysis ofcalcium and aluminum or througt a biological test, both with sample collected from subfarce. The recommended dose varies with soil clay content, being greater for perenial than for annual crops in the same soil. Besides the improving effect of chemical conditions of the subsurface, the utilization of recommended doses of gypsum supplies adequately crops in sulfur for a long period of time. Economical analysis shows the viability of its trasportation for utilization in areas located at long distances away from its source
