Summary: A captura de iscas vivas no Pantanal representa 73% da renda total das famílias envolvidas nessa atividade, situação que confere a sua grande importância social, ambiental e econômica na região. Os peixes da Ordem Gymnotiformes, conhecidos regionalmente como tuviras, representam mais de 70% da captura anual de iscas vivas, sendo pouco conhecidos cientificamente.
