Carbon-Matte is a spreadsheet-based tool that estimates carbon stocks and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) cultivation. The technology was developed by Embrapa Florestas and Fundação Solidaridad to provide a better understanding of the relationship between yerba mate production and the mitigation of GHG emissions through carbon storage. The tool needs data from yerba mate production systems (density, shaded and full sun systems), including variables such as biomass production and silvicultural practices adopted, returning the result in carbon removals from the system and emission sources of some of the main GHGs. Its application is aimed at rural producers, the yerba mate industry, rural extension agents and the scientific community.

This technological solution was developed by Embrapa in partnership with other institution(s).
