The fruits of the BRS Tropical banana closely resemble the Silk Type bananas in both taste and appearance. This variety is not only resistant to Yellow Sigatoka but also tolerant to Fusarium wilt, a common banana disease. However, it is susceptible to Black Sigatoka.
With a medium to tall plant, the BRS Tropical is a robust and productive cultivar, yielding up to 25 tons per hectare per year. A significant advantage over the Maçã banana is its ability to produce multiple harvests even when infected with Fusarium wilt.
Whether grown in dry or irrigated conditions, the BRS Tropical can match the productivity of the Maçã banana, yielding between 10 to 20 tons per hectare and up to 30 tons per hectare, depending on soil, climate, and cultivation practices.
