The cultivar BRS 394, known as the 'Cerrado improved wheat', was developed for irrigated cultivation in the Cerrado region of Central Brazil. Precocity, high yield potential — which can reach 8 tons per hectare in crops — good resistance to lodging and an excellent performance in the industry, with high gluten strength and stability are the main traits of this cultivar. Recommended for cultivation in Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, São Paulo and for the Federal District (region IV of Value of Cultivation and Use - VCU), it was developed by Embrapa Cerrados as well as Embrapa Wheat and launched in 2015. Cultivar Management: because it is indicated for the irrigated cultivation system, BRS 394's best sowing date is between April 10 and May 30, and the first half of May is the period that the cultivar has the highest yield potential. In addition to the higher productivity, the season for sowing is also linked to the possibility of escape from rainfall in the pre-harvest period. The sowing density should be between 320-370 seeds/m2, with spacing between lines of 17cm to 20 cm. The cultivar allows the use of growth reducer to explore high yields and the indicated fertilization is up to 140kg/ha of nitrogen (base + cover). Characteristics: - Average weight of a thousand seeds: 40g; - Cycle: early, period from emergence to silking: 55-60 days and from emergence to maturation: 115-120 days; - Moderately resistant to lodging; - Resistant to natural threshing; - Susceptible to aluminum; Industrial quality: - Commercial grade: improver; - Average gluten strength (W): 350 x 10-4 joules; - Hard grain; - Average stability: 28 minutes; - Protein: 15%; - Color: L*=94 and b*=9.0.
