DEVELOPMENT OF INSTRUMENTATION, METHODS AND PROCESSES FOR THE ASSESSMENT AND SAFE USE OF WASTE
Waste recycling is common in agriculture nowadays on different scales, depending on chain organization, available technologies, and environmental and health regulations. Just to mention two figures, in 2009 the sugarcane-ethanol chain produced 604 billion liters of vinasse and 201 million tons of bagasse and filter cake. Although the bagasse is burnt to generate energy and the vinasse is a fertilizer, many challenges remain. The objective of this project is to assess the potential to transform waste from various sources into raw materials for other uses. The sources researched include waste from the sugar and ethanol industry, the building sector, animal breeding, and food production.
