In recent decades, there has been a reduction in the consumption of some animal products due to the search for healthy products. In the case of dairy products, fat is an important source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a set of bioactive isomers, some with beneficial effects for human health, for example, in the prevention of diseases such as Alzheimer's. The manipulation of ruminant diet has been the used alternative to change milk composition and, thus, producing CLA-rich milk products. This project expands the partnership between Itaipi Binacional and Embrapa, generating new findings in technology research and transfer related to the production and use of biogas and biofertilizers. It will aslo support a previous contract between both companies to complement ongoing work at the Ajuricaba Basin Agroenergy Cooperative. The project will create alternative thecnologies to produce biogas and biofertilizers from the treatment and reuse of waste generated by milk production and by pi Status: Completed Start date: Wed May 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
Recent evidence from observational studies and controlled clinical trials indicates that milk fat, although predominantly saturated, has neutral or positive effects on cardiometabolic health. Such benefits have been attributed to the complex and unique chemical nature of milk fat, which contains several compounds potentially beneficial to health, such as butyric acid (C4:0), vaccenic acid ( trans-11 C18:1), rumenic acid ( cis--9, trans-11 CLA), oleic acid ( cis-9 C18 ... The palm oil tree is, among the oilseeds, the most productive one, being able to reach an annual production of 10 tons/hectare in favorable conditions. The oil has many uses in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, and is also considered one of the best oils to produce biodiesel. In 2010, worldwide production of palm oil, cultivated in 14,99 million hectares, was of 45,09 million tons, while the production of soy oil, cultivated in 102,38 million hectares, was of 39,76 million tons. Spectroscopy, which is always associated with chemometrics, is a versatile technique that is applied in several areas of science. It is fast, non-destructive, low-cost and, in addition, “clean”, requiring few or no reagents. The latter factor aligns the tool with green chemistry.
