Studies on risk factors in dairy herds and their economic impact are available in countries with developed dairy production. This information is used to direct and prioritize procedures that improve herd health and avoid problems such as high total bacterial count and presence of antimicrobial residues in milk. In countries with developed dairy farming most herds are comprised of high-producing animals of specialized breeds and raised in total or partial confinement systems. In Brazil, there is

Surveys carried out by Emater-MG (Corporation of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension of the State of Minas Gerais0) estimate that in the State of Minas Gerais there are approximately 30 thousand artisanal cheese producers. Recent studies in Alagoa-MG and neighboring municipalities characterized the region's milk and cheese production systems in terms of environment (climate, relief, water, soil, etc.) and aspects related to social (producers), microbiological (water, milk, yeast, brine and

The project aims to establish the best process conditions to maximize methane production for two substrates with high potential for biogas production, which are vegetable waste and palm oil production effluent (POME) and obtaining of synthesis gas from vegetable and POME biogas using as catalysts mixed oxides of Ni-Mg-Al enriched with praseodymium, continuing the work developed with simulated biogas. Another expected delivery is the characterization of the microbial community for correlation wit

The main objective of this project was to develop an efficient methodology for the super-early resynchronization of non-pregnant females after Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) in dairy cattle. Super-early resynchronization strategies were studied using estradiol and progesterone (P4) on the 12th day after FTAI procedure, with or without the addition of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), diagnosis of early pregnancy with Doppler on the 20th day based on blood flow in the cor

Olives and olive oil are products frequently found in Brazilian tables. As a result of the small number of planted areas and insignificant production in Brazil, importing has been an alternative to supply internal demand. In 2007, the country imported US$170 millions in olive oil and US$250 millions in olives, according to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry and International Commerce. Researches carried out by Epamig, in Maria da Fé - MG, demonstrated the possibility of rational exp ...

Technological advances in milk production systems are related to genetic improvement and nutritional management. Genetic improvement has made it possible to obtain animals increasingly more productive, which implies a greater demand for nutrients and, consequently, a finer adjustment of diets, in order to meet the nutritional requirements of the animals and reduce the incidence of metabolic disorders (acidosis, laminitis, hypocalcemia, etc.). Another important factor to be evaluated is the use o

Brazil is the fifth largest milk producer in the world with 35 billion liters produced in 2015. However, the Brazilian dairy farmer needs to improve milk quality and reduce the cost of production. One of the main constraints for increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of milk production in Brazil is the management of farms. In this context, Dairy Cattle has developed, in partnership with CCPR-MG (Central Cooperative of Rural Producers of Minas Gerais), a tool to verify the economic perform

Some animal creations require high energy consumption which leads to higher costs of the final products. If less expensive energy sources were used, this could provide significant increases in profits from livestock. In this regard, the use of dairy cattle manure for the generation of biogas is a promising alternative for the treatment of waste and reduction of the pollution potential and health risks of waste, with the additional advantage that the final effluent can be used as bio-fertilizer.

Milk is a complex substance that presents different characteristics depending on the management of animal factors. The alizarol test is typically used at collection points, which often generates divergences between the industry and farmers because of faulty results and subjectivities. More refined tests are only accomplished in laboratories when the milk reaches the industry. A very critical problem is the occurrence of Unstable Non-Acid Milk (UNAM), as there are changes in the milk's physical-c
