Brazil leads the research on reproduction of forage plants, but faces as a challenge the low diversity of pastures, mainly formed by apomictic plants. Apomixia - asexual reproduction by seeds - is an area of biotechnology with great potential to optimize the genetic improvement of these species, as it develops genetic materials and procedures for plant cloning by the direct use of seeds. This project proposes the determination of strategies to regulate the genes associated with the mode of repro Status: Completed Start date: Mon Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
The collared peccary ( Tayassu tajacu) are rustic and gregarious animals who provide meat and leather of excellent quality, being thus an important source of protein especially to the subsistence of the Amazon's needy population. The use of this animal is, however, being done without planned hunting, being thus associated with the destruction of their natural habitat and, consequently, the loss of these resources, which are scarcely known. The Innovation Network in Animal Reproduction adds skills among the different teams that work in the area of animal breeding biotechnology at Embrapa with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of animal production chains in Brazil. Among the objectives, the following stand out: creation of new technological platforms in this area, transfer of technologies generated by the component projects and consolidation of Embrapa as a reference institution for the formation of public policies related Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
Milk production systems have gone through a process of specialization characterized by increasing the size of the herds, productivity and, notably, by reducing the man: cow relationship. The downsizing of skilled labour in production systems demands the development of precision dairy farming tools that allow the generation of individualized data of animals in a given herd. For that matter, there is a need not only for sensors capable of identifying and generating data on individual animals, but Status: Completed Start date: Sat Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Cattle farming is one of the most important activities of Brazilian agribusiness. Brazil is the world's largest beef exporter, holds the world's largest commercial herd, and is the world's third largest producer and consumer of beef and the world's seventh largest milk producer, with about 4% of the world's total. In spite of its large overall production, Brazilian cattle farming remains low in productivity, indicating a great potential for improvement and expansion of this sector of the economy Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2008 |
