Overview
In recent years, it has been a revolution in the biological sciences through the emergence of high throughput sequencing technologies and unprecedented computational power. These advances have allowed increased knowledge about genes, transcripts, non-coding RNAs, expressed proteins and their structures and metabolic pathways. All this knowledge, together with engineering concepts, allows modification of biological systems and innovation of biotechnology applications.
The Synthetic Biology and Bioinformatics research group combines computational, genetic and metabolic engineering approaches for plant and animal breeding, biological control, biotic and abiotic stress, drug design, and development and modification of metabolic pathways. Our goal is to understand biological phenomena and to engineer biological organisms and systems to generate solutions to problems associated with agriculture and agribusiness.
