Overview

Ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources refers to the maintenance of germplasm outside their place of origin in the long, medium or short term. It comprises activities of enrichment through collection, exchange, documentation, and conservation itself. The Ex situ Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources Research Group works on collecting germplasm, on exchanges with institutions in Brazil and abroad, and on the documentation, development and improvement of methods related to ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources. The main aim is to do research to establish and improve methodologies used for ex situ collection and conservation of plant genetic resources, in order to ensure the physical, physiological and genetic integrity of the collections, and to provide the information associated with them as well.
