Overview
The Conservation and Characterization of Animal Genetic Resources research group focuses on livestock species (cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, pigs and poultry) and wildlife species with economic potential (fish, bees, and medium size mammals). Research activities are coordinated through a network of Conservation Nuclei distributed throughout Brazil, each of which supplies embryos and semen samples to the Animal Germplasm Bank. The research group conducts activities on research, innovation, development, adaptation and validation of tools, processes and products to improve conservation, reproduction, pre-breeding and animal breeding.
The research group aims to conserve and characterize livestock germplasm (locally adapted and commercial breeds), as well as wildlife species important for the advancement of national agribusiness.
