He has a degree in Agronomic Engineering (1997) and a master's degree in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2003). He earned his doctorate in Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2011). He did postdoctoral research as visiting scientist at the Justus-Liebig Giessen University in Germany with the gross nitrogen transformations in soil. He was a researcher at the Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company of Santa Catarina (Epagri). He has experience with soil microbiology. He is currently a researcher at Embrapa in soil microbiology and biogeochemistry. Currently also serves as associate editor of the "Brazilian Journal of Microbiology" and "Frontiers of Soil Science".
