Mini-curriculum

Emiliano Costa has been a research scientist at Embrapa since 2011, working in the field of plant breeding. He currently leads the Coconut Breeding Program and serves as the Curator of the International Coconut Genebank for Latin America and the Caribbean. He is the Supervisor of the Thematic Research Group at Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros and a member of Embrapas Sustainable and Resilient Production Portfolio, contributing to the development of agricultural systems adapted to climate change.Previously, he was Chair of the Coconut Breeding Portfolio and a member of the Management Committee of the Tropical Fruit Portfolio.He holds a BSc in Agronomy from the State University of Montes Claros (2003), an MSc in Genetics and Plant Breeding from ESALQ/University of São Paulo (2007), a PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Lavras (2010), and an MBA in Project Management from the University of São Paulo (2021). His graduate research focused on maize breeding and quantitative genetics.In 2010, he worked as a vegetable breeder at Sakata Seed Sudamerica, where he was responsible for breeding programs in cucumber, winter squash, and summer squash.
