The objective of this project is to structure a Strategic Territorial Management System for the Brazilian Cerrado (SGTE-Cerrados), with emphasis on the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), seeking to systematize information, characterize, monitor indicators and perform periodic analyzes that allow an adequate understanding of the agricultural use and occupation of the biome in its territorial, economic, social and environmental dimensions. This project aims to map degradation levels of cultivated pastures in the Cerrado biome of four Brazilian states (Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Tocantins e São Paulo); to establish computational models to classify degraded pastures in Cerrado areas, according to different levels of degradation; and structure a geospatial database to assist decision making by public and private initiative regarding the use of these lands by agriculture and livestock. Despite being a relevant topic for the c ...Status: Completed Start date: Thu Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2019 |
Eucalyptus cropping has been growing in Brazil in the last few years and has become an important alternative for rural areas. With expressive participation in the country's trade balance, it is moved by the demand for paper, cellulose, timber and evergy. Since 2009, Embrapa Satellite Monitoring has carried out research to define efficient sustainability indicators from the assessment of tree and bush flora biodiversity and faunal biodiversity, in addition to proposing forest management actions. The Environmental Risk Assessment (ARA) of pesticides, under the responsibility of Ibama, is part of the procedure for registering a pesticide in Brazil. The main objective of this project was to compare the worst-case scenario adopted by Ibama for the ARA of pesticides in water bodies, with the most representative scenarios of soybean cultivation prevalent in Brazil. A methodology was developed to map water basins with potential for contamination by pesticides used in agriculture. Through it ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Nov 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Forest systems are part of an important land-use strategy aimed at the maintenance of biodiversity, at the commercialization of wood products and other products, at quality of life and at environmental services such as carbon fixation. The greenhouse gas emission flows and the carbon stocked in the forests are indispensable information, and their estimation may support public policies on development and sustainability. Project GeoSaltus focuses on the use of geotechnologies for the developmen ...Status: Completed Start date: Fri Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
Climate change caused by human activities is a reality that can affect agricultural production and is therefore a phenomenon that must be considered in strategic decisions. At the same time that it is affected, agriculture is seen as one of the main causes of global warming due to changes in land use, mainly due to deforestation through burning and non-conservationist soil management, which can lead to land degradation and more greenhouse gas emissions. Understanding the social and economic d ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a quarter of the national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions comes from agricultural activities, and 93% of the CH4 emitted originates from enteric fermentation. Despite that, the agriculture practiced within given management standards can result in a lower GHG emissions. The GeoPecus project's goal is the application of geotechnologies for the understanding of the cause and effect relationship between agricultural activities and the Status: Completed Start date: Fri Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
Data from 2006 the Agricultural Census indicate that the area of cultivated pasture in Brazil corresponds to about 106 million hectares. Since Brazilian cattle farming predominantly takes place in pastures, their degradation can represent economic and environmental damages for the sector. The process of pasture degradation is a complex phenomenon, which involves causes and consequences that lead to the gradual reduction of the pasture's support capacity. In order to adjust to the new environment Status: Completed Start date: Fri Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
