Researcher at the Agroforestry Research Center of Acre, at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). Graduated in Agronomy from Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (1978), M.Sc. (1985) and Ph.D. in Agronomy (1987) from the University of Florida. He was Visiting Researcher at the John Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, as a Giorgio Ruffolo Fellow in the Sustainability Science Program and Research Associate at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (2013-2014). His research focuses on the areas of Agronomy and Animal Science, with an emphasis on pasture and forages and a focus on technologies for the establishment and management of grass pastures in association with legumes and sustainable systems for pasture-based cattle production in the deforested areas of the Legal Amazon. He also participates in international research groups focused on the interface between science and public policies for the sustainable intensification of agricultural production systems in Brazil, with a focus on the Amazon biome. He has experience in managing research and development groups and institutions, as General Head of Embrapa Acre (1995-1999 and 2008-2013), in analyzing and formulating policies aimed at agribusiness and sustainable development in the Legal Amazon. He is currently chairman of the Amazon Portfolio Management Committee, a member of the Acre State Environment and Forestry Council and a member of the Agrobusiness Technical Chamber of the Acre Business Forum for Innovation and Development.
