Mini-curriculum

Graduate in Agronomy at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1977), master's at Agronomy from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1980) and ph.d. at Genetics from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1990). Has experience in Agronomy, focusing on wheat breeding, acting on the following subjects: breeding, selection, wheat, cultivars, adaptation, deseases, wheat plant idiotype, wheat quality. At Embrapa was responsible for the Wheat Genetic Improvement project for Brazil, from 1992 to 2022, and this project was running in eight Brazilian states and aims to create wheat cultivars for the four wheat regions of Brazil. In breeding, is the main autor of the wheat cultivars BRS Guamirim (recomended for cultivation in the South Wheat Region of Brazil), BRS 220 e BRS Tangará (recomended for cultivation in the Center-South Wheat Region) e BRS 254 (recomended for cultivation in the Center Wheat Region Cerrado - Irrigated), all with a large acreage in farmer fields in the last years. In 2012, the new cultivar BRS Parrudo was released. It represents a new plant ideotype, resisteant to lodging and adapted to the South Brasilian humid field conditions. BRS Parrudo has high yield potential and has good quality. In 2014, the cultivar BRS Reponte was launched, which was the first one placed in grain yield of the State Test of Cultivars of Rio Grande de Sul, conducted in 12 environments in 2016, in 2019 and 2022. In 2017 the two new wheat cultivars BRS Belajoia and BRS Primaz were recommended for cultivation in the traditional area of southern Brazil.
