Mini-curriculum

I am graduated in Agronomy by the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro in 1987. I was a CNPq scholarship holder in scientific initiation at Embrapa Agrobiology. I completed my MSc in 1992 and the PhD in 1996, both in Soil Science at the Agronomy Institute of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, having as research subjects the use of techniques for the study of the N dynamics in the soil-plant system based on conventional and 15N isotopic technique, including the quantification of biological N2 fixation. In 2004/2005, I stayed at the University of Edinburgh (School of Geosciences, Institute of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences), Scotland, for a post-doctoral internship aiming at training on the quantification of greenhouse gas (N2O and CH4) emissions from soils. From 1994 to date I have been working for the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation as researcher, and from 1998 to date as teacher and supervisor of the Postgraduate Course in Soil Science of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2012 I was included as supervisor of the Post-Graduation Program in Energy Planning of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE-UFRJ). From 2014 to 2018 I participated as member of Embrapa's Climate Change Portfolio, and from 2016 to 2019 as member of the CNPq's Advisory Committee on Agronomy. I am member of the Climate Network and the Brazilian Climate Change Panel, responsible for the subsector's report "N2O Emissions from Managed Soils and CO2 from the Application of Limestone and Urea ", and member of FAPERJ Senior Council. Research topics I have been working on: soil C and greenhouse gas emissions, biological nitrogen fixation, N and C dynamics in agricultural systems and agroenergy.
