Veronica Massena Reis - researcher A of Embrapa Agrobiology Center, localized in Seropédica, RJ-Brazil, since 1994. I graduated in Agronomy at the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro UFRRJ in 1984. After that, she worked in a private company and a coffee farm returning to the research in 1987. Since that, got her Ph.D. at the same University in 1994. Her master's and Ph.D. thesis were performed with the diazotrophic bacterium Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus in association with sugarcane. At that time the term true endophyte related to the behavior of this bacterium with sugarcane was described based on my Ph.D. thesis. After, with a pos-doc fellowship, I started to study the interaction of the Herbaspirillum genus describing a new species of H. frisingense associated with Pennisetum purpurem grass species. In 1994, as a researcher of Embrapa, started to work with the sugarcane and maize association and expanded her research to other genera such as Azospirillum and Paraburkholderia interactions. In a project with Mexico, Dr. Jesus Caballero-Melldo describes two new species of the Paraburkholderia genus in 2004 and 2006. My experience is in the development of microbial inoculants for application in cereals and energy crops. Also is a researcher level 1 of CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico) and a Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State, a special grant given by the Rio de Janeiro State Foundation. Coordinates several national and international projects during her career. Professor of the Postgraduate Course in Agronomy - Soil Science at UFRRJ since 1995, where coordinates the discipline of Biological Nitrogen Fixation. In these more than 35 years of research, I continued the pioneering work, coordinating national and international projects, and guiding teams. In addition, dedicated 13 years of my career in management at Embrapa, working with the Agrobiology projects (position denominated CTI - Internal Technical Committee), as well as the Head of Research and Development direction position. I am the technical researcher responsible for the development of the first inoculant containing a selected strain of diazotrophic bacteria for application in sugarcane, the Nitrospirillum amazonense, which is now a market product made in partnership with BASF - Embrapa partnership using the open innovation concept. As a part of a renowned research group on the Biological Nitrogen Fixation area. I continue to coordinate the "Grasses Laboratory", in honor of the work performed during my research career with these plants.
